AMIR K BOYD,
CEo, CONNECTING DOTS PROMOTIONS
While the evolving music industry has caught many off guard, Amir Boyd, the former Senior National Director of Urban Promotions for Interscope, isn’t one of them. Riding the music industry’s many challenging waves,
Boyd has successfully navigated from party promoter to radio and record label executive, with stints in
talent management.
A former standout high school football player, Boyd is no stranger to the spotlight. His natural charisma
and easygoing spirit made him a hit off the field too. So when football didn’t work out, it didn’t end the
party. Education-minded, Boyd attended Morgan State in Baltimore. There he co-founded Highlife
Productions, which threw the hottest parties on campus and off. WPGC in Washington, DC took note and
helped Boyd launch his radio career.
From 1999 to 2001, Boyd worked as Promotions Assistant for WPGC, implementing some of the station’s
most innovative and productive campaigns. That savvy earned him the Assistant Promotions Director gig
back in Baltimore at WXYV. By 2003, Boyd was on the rise again as Promotions Manager for WVEE
(V-103) in Atlanta, often the nation’s top-rated urban station.
Success there led to another career elevation to Regional Marketing Director for DTLR, the urban lifestyle
retail store. Between 2005 and 2006, Boyd successfully opened eight stores by actively marrying the
urban music lifestyle and its stars to the clothes and shoes reflecting it through exclusive in-store
appearances.
Kevin Liles of Warner Music Group (WMG) personally tapped Boyd in 2006 to serve as the Southeast
Regional Promotion Manager for Special Ops, a promotions division of WMG. In this capacity, Boyd
spearheaded all promotions for Bad Boy, Trina, Webbie, Lil Boosie and Young Joc. Always one to help the
underdog, Boyd created his own company, Connecting Dots Promotions, to help indie labels in particular
create their own radio and promotional campaigns.
Boyd’s all around achievement caught the attention of Interscope, which recruited him to serve as their
Southeast Regional Promotions manager. Working with 50 Cent, Robin Thicke and Young Buck, Boyd
helped raise Interscope’s visibility in the Southeast by creating events that touched crucial independent
and major retailers while also sparking consumer excitement.
Recognizing that the student was now the master, WVEE (V-103) made Boyd its Music Director in 2007.
Boyd’s mark was so distinctive that Grand Hustle, chart-topping rapper T.I.’s company, tapped Boyd as VP
of Radio and Promotions at Grand Hustle Entertainment the next year. Boyd also added community
service initiatives to the mix.
Boyd was the first to tip Epic off about Future and helped Cash Out sign there. As their Southeast
Regional Promotions Manager and later the national point person over mx shows, Boyd helped Epic re-
assert itself in the urban market. From there he returned to the Grand Hustle family as Marketing
Manager of Hustle Gang Clothing before assuming a position as VP of Promotions for the indie and label
management company, Culture Republic. Boyd has also had a hand in managing the careers of comedian
Lil Duval, rapper Nick Grant and rap icon Big Boi of the legendary OutKast duo and Dungeon Family. With
his latest move to the West Coast for Interscope, more great things are on the horizon.
